FRIENDSHIP.

“Forget not the friend in his need,”
Nor the good thou canst do him withhold;
Thou mayest still prove a true friend indeed,
Though thou canst not assist with much gold
There are words of more value than pelf*
To cheer up the poor woe-wrung heart,
And the man that’s not wrapp’d up in self
Can always some comfort impart.

“Forget not thy friend in his need,”
Take the gall from his cup of distress,
For the God who beholds ev’ry deed.
Will kindness and charity bless.
Each one should his heart be reminding
That acts of compassion and love
Add links to the chain that is binding
His soul to the Great One above.
