DELTA (Weston-Super-Mare) 1852

“I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord. The righteous Judge, shall give me at the day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” – Titus iv., 6, 7, 8 verses.

A racer striving for the prize,
Or martyr who may death despise;
A soldier prompt at duty’s call,
Enduring hardness, such was Paul:
The glory of that light at noon.
When near Damascus – chang’d him soon –
Receiving sight, babtiz’d. he bore
The name of Christ, blasphem’d before;
The dead in trespasses arose,
The chief of sinners Jesus chose –
A holy boldness, courage high,
Faith, labour, love, and constancy,
Were weapons wielded – truth prevailed –
Strongholds of Satan fell, assail’d;
The signs of an Apostle wrought,
Accredited the doctrines taught;
Believers were a diadem
Of hope, rejoicing, unto him, -
A pre libation of the bliss
Which gemm’d his crown of righteousness.*
